Outdoor Adventures: Swimming

oh the insanity of it all. It’s still March and we’ve had snow on the ground at this time in my remembered past. Not this year though! Our gym took down the bubble that covers their outdoor pool 2 months early and I decided I needed a *fun activity* for my crazy boys this hot afternoon.

To say that Bear was excited about going swimming was a huge understatement. He clasped his hands over his mouth, eyes huge and  screamed “OH MY GOODNESS!” He giggled insanely as he ran around looking for his swim trunks. Bug followed suit, running around shrieking with laughter although I have a suspicion that he had no idea what was going on…

and honestly I was dreading it a little bit. I kept having flashbacks to last summer when Bear was too freaked out to get in the water and Bug kept throwing himself into the water, fearlessly plunging to the bottom of the pool… buuuut without the ability to swim. It was a heart pounding, adrenaline pumping adventure every time we went to a pool.. and I eventually stopped taking them unless Ben was with me.

So, with tensions high, I embarked out the door, Bug in a wet suit with foam floaties built in so if he was feeling suicidal he’d at least be on TOP of the water. I passed the “No Lifeguard on duty” sign with stoic determinitation to have a good time and keep my boys alive. I breathed deep, aaand…

They had switched personalities. Bear kept wanting to hold my hand to jump in the water and stayed on the ladder, kicking and almost going under water for fun. Bug… barely would get in. He marginally splashed then went and sat on a chair, in the sun. :)

Perfection.
