Tornado Alley

My dreams are so vivid and real sometimes. They can occasionally feel more real to me than my living reality. I’ve seriously thought I was like the kids in Nightmare on Elm Street where if they die while they’re sleeping, they die in real life. Or like in the Matrix. So I will probably die in my sleep which for most of you that would be like, ‘well, that’s peaceful!’ And I reply, ‘yes, except for the horrific grimace on my dead face that would indicate anything other than peace’!

Case in point. I have recurring nightmares about tornadoes, I didn’t have one last night but I wouldn’t have been surprised about that because we were under a tornado warning last night. I had been outside, admiring the storm and the electricity in the air and across my skin. I should have been a storm chaser! My mother called me telling me to get into the bathtub and I smirkily chuckled. She was always over reacting about the weather. But then the wind changed and an ominous feeling came over me, like the sky was growling. It looked bright briefly, like the sky was parting, then suddenly a cold wind came from no where and in seconds tiny hail was raining down on me. I shuddered and obeyed my mommy. Inside, the weather man was amusing me with ‘low wall cloud’ talk until he said to one of the off-camera lackeys, “could you call my wife and tell her to get in the bath tub?” and he was totally serious. He said it was right above me so in the bathtub goes Summit, Rolo and Snickerdoodle. I snuck out again and went to my window to peek and above were angry, low swirling clouds. So this was real. I meekly sat on the edge of the bathtub, not IN it, and called Ben and made him talk to me until my Mom called back to say the coast was clear. SO, this was one of my nightmares in action, except everything went perfectly and the roof didn’t disappear. Yay for small victories, hopefully this success will be reflected in my subconscious for future nightmares…

When I was little I dreamed of multiple tornadoes at once. It was scary. As scary as tornadoes are, is it stupid that I really want to see one in person?
