Outdoor Adventures: “More Adventure”

I used to think that my inlaws lived in the middle of no where. I still think that to a certain extent (mainly because they have no cell service) but after driving into what is REALLY the middle of no where I’m changing my opinion a bit. :)

As Bear said on the drive home, “MORE ADVENTURE!”

We left Bug napping up the hill and went down Ben’s parents driveway, off a highway 6 miles from a tiny town and went the opposite way. Apparently rural Arkansas is mapped out with little, obscure dirt roads connecting other tiny little towns.  We drove for 30 minutes without seeing any civilization other than an occasional, overgrown driveway. The hills were high, steep and rocky. We stopped by a pretty bluff and let Bear get out and throw rocks into the water which delighted him. Being a boy, he eventually got naked and decided to play in the water.

It took bribery to get him back in the car, with the promise of “more adventure…”

We drove for miles, the sunlight filtered through the trees and the dust from the road clouding up the rear view. The windows were down, the day lazy. The only insects we saw were large butterflies which congregated by the dozens beside muddy puddles.

Bear had to go to the bathroom and Ben pulled over by a partially hidden driveway and Bear pooped in their driveway. I’m sorry random country people…

We continued on and Ben was either lying or was channeling his country roots because he said he knew exactly (ish) where we were and wanted to go on to a place he had heard of, Natural Dam. We actually made it there and it was beautiful.

Bear fell asleep in the car after crying “more adventure” for 15 minutes. Only to awake in time for some 4-wheel fun with his beloved Grandparents.
