lil bit o’ honey

I have waited a few days to post because I’ve been kind of ticked off about some things and wanted to cool off first. My first version of this was still a little railing, so I’ve deleted it and started over. :)

So, basically I’m not going to post about what is really on my mind because as hard as I tried, I came across really angry even though most of what I said was meant in a lighter tone that it read. Hmmm. Instead, then, I want to share a passage from this really great book that I’m reading. I don’t know if this is legal or whatever so I am saying I don’t own the rights to do this, etc. whatever else to keep me safe from this Christian author’s legal henchmen.

The name of the book is “Tired of Trying to Measure up” and if you’re an first born raised in a Christian household with church denomination tendencies towards legalism I know your ears are perking up. Yes. The sub-title is “Getting free from the demands, expectations, and intimidations of well-meaning people.” Yeah. Snagged yet?

“Because it’s only at the place where we have NO performance that God’s performance begins to make sense. It’s only at the place where earning acceptance through self-effort looks as bankrupt as it is that “gift-based” acceptance, value and identity can look as good and powerful and liberating as it truly is.”

and

“The only correct motive for living by God’s standards is because you love Jesus and WANT to obey him. In fact, obedience is the natural result of dependence upon God.”

and finally,

“Consequently, our fight is no longer a fight to produce better behavior, but it is characterized by fighting to BELIEVE what is true about us because of what God has done: it’s a fight to DECIDE to live in a manner that’s consistent with these new messages.”

Hope that meant something to you! It’s kind of rocking my world!
