{Country Living}…like the Pioneer Woman, but less classy

I am not going to do a ‘formal’ get to know me post…I’d rather allow you to make snap judgments based on the inconsistencies in my life!  It’s more fun that way, AND hopefully you get to be pleasantly surprised when you realize I am not like you originally thought (unless you have me pegged as a single mom, and all the drama that goes with that), but I digress…

I live in the country:   Websters defines it as “an indefinite usually extended expanse of land“, the Urban Dictionary  describes it as “Not like the city because it’s quiet, not like suburbia because you don’t feel like you’re going to explode due to boredom and utter lack of greenery (lawns not withstanding)  A generally quiet region of the world many people choose to live in due to it’s tranquility and closeness with nature. Sometimes refered to as and are actually similar to “the boons” and “the bush” or “the sticks”.

My oldest son mistakenly complained that we live “In the middle of nowhere”, and I had to gently correct him by saying “No son, we live on the EDGE of nowhere.”

So I live in the country. . . at the bottom of a very small mountain on which my sister’s family lives 1/2 way up, and my parental units (I can still call them that, I’m young enough) live at the top of.  We have a total of 3 houses, 1 cabin, 2 outhouses, 6 outbuildings, 4 gardens, 3 lawn mowers, 5 weed wackers (yeah, I called it a weed wacker…it doesn’t EAT the weeds), 4 chain saws, 2 working four wheelers, and 1 non working four wheeler…I don’t even want to take a guess at how many 5 gallon buckets and gas cans (labeled of course) we have laying around and no cell phone service.  I plan on entertaining you often with stories of life in the country, but for today I want to share a few pictures.

I LOVE this about living in the country…

…and we have it mastered!  We try and have a bonfire every other month (unless the burn ban shuts us down.)  :(

I LIKE this about living in the country…

..only ‘like’ because it is a lot of work, but thankful that we have lots of family on the hill to help out!

I have NO WORDS for how much I DISLIKE this about living in the country…

…these are baby mice, in my knitting drawer, in a chewed up scarf I made as a gift (it was NOT chewed up previously)…and I have 2 cats…TWO!  I read the label on their food yesterday and realized that I am feeding them too much, lazy cats…earn your keep!

More from “the sticks” later!
