chandelier (w/ Pic!)

Today I was helping my sister-in-law Harmony get some things unpacked and put away, (I was very helpful sitting in my chair telling them where to hang things,) and I spied a brassy, tacky chandelier that was probably the height of style in 1992 that Harmony was about to throw away. Oddly enough I had forgot about it, I had given it to her some months ago when my sister Katy brought it over to my house having found it by someone’s trash. (Yes, really, our family is scrappy like that. Another story: Ben getting what is now our office chair out of a dumpster.)

Anyhoo, I felt a zing of inspiration! I had watched HGTV recently and saw them re-do an old, ugly chandelier and make it look awesome and I just knew I could do the same! Within minutes I was cruising down the spray paint aisle with my niece looking for just the right color. Lime green it was.

After just one set back involving spraying myself in the face with spray paint- sidenote: be careful with the new safety nozzles- and removing the molded glass globes, I had finished. Then I painted hot pink mardi-gras beads the same lime color but left a little hot pink showing through. While still tacky from undried paint Harmony and I hung it up and draped the lime beads and added some silver ones for accent. Then we used some ribbon to take the chain up a few notches and voila! This picture from my phone doesn’t even do it justice. I am in such trouble if I ever have a girl!!!!!

Um, yeah, you’re in trouble if you ever have a girl. Promise. Voice of experience. :)

By the way, I would like to pre-order one dumpster re-fab(ulous) chandelier. I like the green, but make mine off-white. Beads are good. Ribbon is precious. Tell me what I owe you. 😉

I will totally make you one if you just buy the ribbon, paint, and beads, I had so much fun making this!

haha, I knew you’d like it someday! “one man’s trash…” should be our family mantra…Remember mom and the pizza?? perhaps its genetic :)
