Spring is in the air….

Sarea Thumbnail… and to me, that means… BASEBALL!

I seriously have a countdown until my local minor league starts (The Naturals), as well as my favorite pro team (Detroit Tigers).   At then end of last season, there was a group at the ball field promoting a new movie that was slated to come out April 19, 2013.  It caught my eye because the title of the movie was “Home Run”.  I figured right away that it wasn’t a  big ‘Hollywood’ produced movie due to the fact that locals were promoting it.  I grabbed a bookmark that they were giving away and when I got home I looked it up at the website they had listed.

home run

I was immediately excited about this film.  It is about a baseball player struggling with alcoholism and in danger of losing all he has worked for.  He is required to join a 12 step program in his hometown and help coach the little league team as well.

When I was given the opportunity to do a preview of #HomeRunMovie this weekend, I jumped all over it!  I was so pumped!   When I got my packet in the mail, I called several people from several different churches in the area (I love living in a small town).  Due to schedules, I ended up doing a preview on Saturday night and one Sunday afternoon.  This was NO problem for me at all because I had watched it Friday night with a friend so I could answer any questions that people might have before the screening, and LOVED IT!

I was able to gather people from 6 different churches for the viewings.  I served up ‘baseball’ food, with hot dogs, chili cheese nachos and popcorn!

Celebrate Recovery

My dad has had a very close friend that attended Celebrate Recovery, so he shared a little bit about what Celebrate Recovery was about before we watched the film. (I think I might just talk to my dad about getting Lee to tell HIS story on the blog, it is pretty amazing!)  Everyone that was there had heard about it, and a couple had even attended a meeting or two.  One thing that I found interesting is that they actually have it available on a kid level too!

Home Run

There were a couple subjects talked about(pornography, sexual abuse, drug usage) that might raise some questions from the kids, but it was not done in a way that makes any of those things sound fun, and it was minimal.  The kids really enjoyed the movie as well.

Kids enjoyed it too

On Sunday’s viewing we were blessed to have Kelsey with us.

Kelsey

She is a group leader with a local Celebrate Recovery group!  She was able to answer some more questions and give insight.   Kelsey was very encouraged by the movie and is praying that Celebrate Recovery ‘blows up’ after the movie is released!  I myself am going to look into Celebrate Recovery for divorce.  I know it has been over 3 years, but it can’t hurt to deal with any emotional baggage that I might still be lugging around now, can it?

Sunday viewing

We had some great discussion following the movie each time.

Without giving anything away, here are some of the things that were said:

“I’m very impressed with the acting!  Usually these ‘Christian’ films have bad acting.”

“This was a great story!”

“What else does Celebrate Recovery cover?”

“When does it come out?  I am taking a bunch of people to the theater to see it!”

“I like how it seemed real and a struggle…no ‘cheesy’ parts.”

I personally loved the film. I thought the story was well written, and the acting was really good!  As a bonus, they sent me the soundtrack!  You guys know how much that I love music, and this music is very moving!  Even though I have to send my preview copy of the movie back, you can bet that I will be purchasing this film for my library as soon as it becomes available!  They also have written a book that is available for purchase NOW that is based on the film.

The really great discussions that we had would ruin parts of the movie for you guys, and I don’t want to do that, but I can promise you that it will be money well spent when you go see it in theaters on April 19th!  The only thing I would change about the movie is….I would give ME the co-staring role as Cory’s gal…Cory is just too dang adorable!  😉

On the website you can check to see if the movie is coming to a theater near you…if it isn’t, there is a way that you can get involved and help get it to your town!  It is the BATTING 1000 program.

I really pray along with Kelsey that this movie would reach mainstream audiences, not just the Christian market. Celebrate Recovery has so much to offer and I like you have considered joining a group as well. I can’t wait to see this movie. Good to know that kids can watch it as well. We definitely need more family friendly movies!
