{Non} Christmas Card Photos

You know you have ’em too. 😉

Sometimes it’s the outtakes that show the life. the reality. the struggle.

the joy. the fun. the humor of it all.

I have lots of family pictures that I’m proud of from this day. Ones that send my Christmas Card dreams into overdrive, clicking through template after template trying to find one that makes us look good, normal and happy.

And I felt so compelled to share this one first. Not that it’s funny, terrible or even bad- it’s just a good way to start.

It’s imperfect.

You see, in this day of  image grooming, story crafting and social media posts creating artificial lives that don’t reflect reality there has to be a balance.

We threatened the boys, bribed them with candy and desperately pleaded with them to smile while gritting our teeth and praying that the photographer would get just one photo to send out to our family and friends…

So here we start, this crazy season, with a just a little piece of imperfection to hopefully remind you how very unimportant the things are that often times stress us out the most. Breathe in and out slowly. Release the image of who you’d like to be perceived as. Embrace your beautiful little reality with open arms and blinders to the others. Enjoy each memory making moment even when it feels like a disaster. Look outside at the trees.

Be still. Even for a moment.

’tis the season. :)
