A Fine Dime: The Little Black Dress

Didn’t you know this was coming??? :)  After New Years Eve, I was in a hurry to dress up again and was provided a fun opportunity next week for a fancy birthday party for a friend. I am recycling some old stuff for it but decided to go back and talk about my New Years fashion (because it was so much fun!) and how it can be used for work parties, evening weddings and any other occasions in which getting all dressed up in THE little black dress is necessary.

The classic  “little black dress” is a topic often discussed so, of course, why not add my input, especially when the three of us all wore them? I wore an older black strapless dress with great (fat hiding…) ruching around the stomach and hips,  primarily because I decided last minute to wear my boots when our plans changed to where I’d be walking a lot. I love my garage sale Jimmy Choos and as great as my legs look in those 5 inch stilettos, the rest of my body doesn’t cooperate AT ALL. I tend to fall… a lot!

Amanda wore a dress that had been a bridesmaids dress originally but was re-purposed for a night out. Sometimes re-purposing a bridesmaids dress may be hard but since it wasn’t classic (ugly!) looking one it was not hard to make it just a formal dress instead. She wore tights and stiletto boots- which put me to shame! I’m such a heel wimp!

Mary wore a strapless black dress, similar to mine except with straight lines and not all the ruching that mine had. These type of dresses are so CLASSIC and work for so many occasions! They are comfortable and can be “modernized” with trendy jewelry or dressed up a lot with more with classic styled jewelry.

I curled my hair then pulled the sides up so I could eat easier. Really. We had dinner reservations at a very nice place and I didn’t want to fight with my hair!  I also curled Mary’s hair and Amanda did a classic French twist. We kept it simple and pretty classic!
